Josette Deschambeault

is a freelance writer, editor, and river guide based in Alaska, Colorado, and Maine.

In her 9-5, Josette is a clinical EMT, firefighter, and former operations manager for Alaska Mountain Guides & Chilkat Guides. Her work allowed her to travel extensively during the off-season, and guide in some of the most beautiful places in Alaska, the Yukon, and British Columbia. With Maine as her homestate — but with the West always calling her back — she pursues rafting, skiing, hiking, and new places to truck-camp with her 13 year old Lab/Great Dane and puppy Boxer.

After an internship with Backpacker Magazine, Josette began her freelance career alongside her pursuit of the outdoor industry at large. She has worked as a recipe editor for Green Chef/Hello Fresh, advised on novels, written copy and edited multiple websites — including Gear Hungry, Improb, Alaska Mountain Guides, Chilkat Guides, International Wilderness Leadership School, Skagway Excursions, Alaska Yukon Discovery Tours, Treeline Review, and Of Life & Mind.

Her river, hiking, and skiing adventures have taken her to Japan, Scotland, Romania, Canada, Alaska, and the Lower 48 — with more to come.
